Discover Omaha Beach, an exceptional site steeped in history

History

Vierville-sur-Mer is a commune in the Calvados department, located 20 kilometers from Bayeux. Vierville-sur-Mer is world-famous as one of the 3 landing beaches on June 6, 1944, better known as Omaha Beach.
On that day, the 116th Regiment of the 29th Division of the U.S. National Guard landed at low tide off Vierville, supported by tanks, Rangers and engineers.

An artificial harbor similar to that of Arromanches was present, but was destroyed by the storm of June 19, 1944. All that remains of this port is a single pontoon linked to the shore, from which a jetty was built.
